Anathalia Meyskina Pangestu, a student of Communication Science at the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM), has achieved a proud milestone on the national stage.
Competing in the 2025 National Sports and Arts Week (Porseni VI) held at GOR Among Rogo, Yogyakarta, from Jun. 25 to Jun. 29, Pangestu earned the Bronze Medal in the Mandarin-language Public Speaking category.
The competition featured top participants from various provinces across Indonesia, making the contest highly competitive and challenging.
Pangestu’s performance reflects the caliber of UGM students, who excel not only academically but also stand out in large-scale national competitions.
With thorough preparation and strong confidence, Pangestu impressed the panel of judges through her fluency in Mandarin and her delivery, which was compelling, communicative, and inspiring.
Her accomplishment highlights not only academic excellence but also her adaptability and ability to compete at broader, even international, levels.
In a statement, Pangestu shared that this achievement did not come instantly. She underwent intensive training and faced significant mental challenges before performing on the national stage.
“For me, this experience is not just about winning a medal, but it’s about resilience, hard work, and the courage to step out of my comfort zone,” she said on Tuesday (Jul. 8).
In the same Porseni VI event, UGM’s 3×3 Women’s Basketball Team also earned the Silver Medal after delivering a solid and determined performance against strong opponents from across the country.
Team cohesion and effective game strategy carried them through to the final round, demonstrating the competitive spirit of UGM students in national-level sports.
UGM’s achievements at Porseni VI show the university’s vast potential in both academic and non-academic arenas. Dr. Hempri Suyatna, Secretary to the Directorate of Student Affairs at UGM, expressed his appreciation for the accomplishments of UGM students.
He emphasized that UGM consistently encourages its students to grow and confidently participate in various platforms for achievement.
“With a spirit of collaboration and strong perseverance, we hope more UGM students will be inspired to pursue excellence and bring honor to the university. Pangestu’s and the basketball team’s achievements symbolize the determination of UGM students, those with a champion’s mindset, strong resilience, and unwavering commitment to contribute across diverse fields,” he concluded.
