To strengthen bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Indonesia, the Embassy of the Czech Republic opened the Honorary Consulate Representative Office in Yogyakarta, serving the regions of East Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The consulate opening marks a strategic step toward enhancing collaboration between the Czech Republic and Indonesia in economic, cultural, and educational fields, especially in Yogyakarta.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at the Agrotropica Learning Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The Czech Republic Ambassador to Indonesia, Jaroslav Doleček, explained that establishing the Consulate Representative Office will strengthen cooperation across various sectors and support cultural and educational exchanges between the Czech Republic and Indonesia.
“We believe that this close collaboration can create innovative solutions for the future,” Doleček stated.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Jaka Widada, welcomed the inauguration of the Czech Republic Consulate General Representative Office in Yogyakarta.
Dr. Widada says this office opens doors for knowledge and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
“We warmly welcome the establishment of the Czech Republic Consulate General here. This is not just about celebrating a new office; it is a symbol of opening doors for deeper cultural and knowledge exchange, enriching both countries and their people, especially in Yogyakarta,” he said.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were Hermawan Kartajaya, the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic for East Java and Yogyakarta; Dr. Sukamto, Special Advisor on Legal, Government, and Political Affairs; and Sugeng Purwanto, Acting Mayor of Yogyakarta.
Hermawan Kartajaya noted that the consulate opening is about diplomacy and building a closer bridge between the Czech Republic and Indonesia.
“We hope to become a link that facilitates the growth of new ideas and innovation, creating a positive impact for both countries,” Kartajaya said.
A significant figure in marketing, Hermawan Kartajaya is committed to advancing relations between the Czech Republic and Indonesia, particularly in the regions under his responsibility.
Under his leadership, this consulate is expected to facilitate various beneficial projects for both nations.
These initiatives include expanding economic and educational partnerships with prominent institutions in East Java and Yogyakarta and a sister city project between Yogyakarta and Hluboka nad Vltavou.
At the close of the event, Hermawan Kartajaya, as an Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic for East Java and Yogyakarta, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UGM.
The MoU includes cooperation for office space, marked by the national flags of Indonesia and the Czech Republic, located in the Agrotropica Learning Center at the UGM Faculty of Agriculture.
A Ceremony of Appointment was also held, appointing Dr. Widada as Assistant Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic for the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
