Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Universitas Gadjah Mada (DWP UGM) held a pilgrimage to the UGM Family Cemetery in Sawitsari and Kusumanegara Heroes Cemetery in Yogyakarta on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2024. Fifty members of DWP UGM attended the event.
In addition to praying and scattering flower petals, the members also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at each visited grave.
Indun Dewi Puspita, Chair of DWP UGM, explained that the pilgrimage was part of the commemoration of UGM’s 75th Anniversary and its 15th Lustrum.
Puspita emphasized that visiting the graves of UGM’s founders, former rectors, and members of the UGM family who have passed away honors their significant contributions to advancing UGM, society, and the nation.
“We can emulate the kindness and spirit instilled by our predecessors,” she stated.
Furthermore, the visit to the heroes’ cemetery was also intended to honor and reflect on the sacrifices and struggles of past leaders, drawing inspiration from their values and exemplary efforts in advancing both the university and Indonesia.
As part of UGM’s 75th Anniversary and 15th Lustrum celebrations, DWP UGM will also participate in the Cultural and Arts Performance and the Nitilaku event in December.
“We are committed to spreading positivity. At the Cultural and Arts Performance, we will showcase angklung music,” she concluded.
