Dr. Muhammad Najib, a faculty member of the Department of Sociology at the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM), has been elected to the UGM Board of Trustees (MWA UGM), representing non-professor faculty for the remainder of the 2021-2026 term.
He was elected through e-voting in a Special Meeting of the UGM Academic Senate held on Friday (Sep. 27) in Multimedia Room 1, UGM Central Office.
As the newly elected non-professor faculty representative on MWA UGM, Dr. Najib replaces Dr. Supra Wimbarti, who retired from the UGM Faculty of Psychology in September 2024.
The election process was led by Professor Tarcicius Yoyok Wahyu Subroto, Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee, accompanied by Dr. Achmad Rofiq.
Chair of the Academic Senate, Professor Sulistiowati, led the Special Plenary Meeting. She explained that a screening process was carried out to select candidates for the non-professor faculty member seat.
After administrative and health checks, 11 non-professor faculty members were deemed eligible to participate in the election.
“The nominations varied, with some faculties submitting one candidate, others two, but thankfully, the election process ran smoothly,” she said.
Professor Sulistiowati explained that 54 out of 84 members of the Academic Senate attended the election for the UGM MWA non-professor faculty representative. The election was conducted via e-voting, supported by equipment from the UGM Directorate of Information Technology.
After the election and a quick count, the top four vote-getters were Dr. Muhammad Najib, with 16 votes; Dr. Nastiti Wijayanti, with eight votes; Dr. Arief Budiyanto, and Dr. Nanung Danar Dono, who each received five votes.
In the administrative documents submitted to the committee, Dr. Najib expressed his commitment to continue dedicating his maximum time to contributing to the development of UGM’s tri-dharma (education, research, and community service). He also aims to participate in shaping UGM’s policy directions to adapt to the rapidly changing environment.
