Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Universitas Gadjah Mada (DWP UGM) held a social service activity to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of UGM.
The event took place on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Wanagama building within the Wanagama forest area in Gunungkidul. This social service initiative involved residents from four villages: Ngleri, Gading, Bunder, and Banaran.
During this event, DWP UGM organized a sale of secondhand clothes and a subsidized food package sale. The activity aimed to support low-income communities in the four villages. The social service was targeted to provide food aid to around 400 residents.
According to Dr. Indun Dewi Puspita, the chair of DWP UGM, this social service activity has been a regular annual event held by DWP UGM to commemorate the Anniversary of UGM.
Dr. Puspita hopes that through this event, the surrounding community will feel further support and benefit from the Wanagama Forest in the middle of the Gunungkidul community.
“The hope is that this social service can provide wider benefits to the communities around Wanagama,” said Dr. Puspita.
The event received positive feedback from the community. Many people attended to participate in both the clothing sale and the subsidized food package sale.
One local resident, Nurwanti, expressed her appreciation for the event. She mentioned that the event was very beneficial, especially since the prices of basic necessities are currently high.
“Yes, this is good because food prices are rising, like oil and rice, which many people need since it’s planting season and many don’t have rice,” said Nurwanti.
Furthermore, Nurwanti also expressed hopes that future DWP social services could be even more lively and festive by inviting various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to sell their products.
“I hope that in the future, the event will be even more festive, with more people attending and more events, such as adding MSMEs selling their products to make it busier,” she said.
In agreement with Nurwanti, Ahmad Mahmud Ghozali, a village official from Gading, also expressed his appreciation to UGM and supported continued collaboration between the local government and UGM to carry out various programs that empower the people in the four villages.
“We are always open to all activities, whether through KKN student programs or other programs that will collaborate with the government in this area,” he said.
