In an effort to revitalize the tourism potential of Kalikotes Village, Klaten Regency, the UGM KKN PPM students, together with local stakeholders and the community, have built the Kotes Fish Monument.
The symbolic laying of the monument’s foundation stone, marking a pivotal moment in the village’s tourism development, took place at the Tirta Arum Central Hydroponic Complex in Kalikotes Village on Jan. 19.
The first stone laying was conducted by the UGM Director of Community Service, Dr. Rustamaji, and the unit’s field supervisor, Professor Suratman.
They were joined by representatives from the Klaten Development Planning Agency, Klaten Youth, Sports and Tourism Office, the Kalikotes District Head, the Kalikotes Village Head, and the Tirta Arum Central Hydroponic management.
Professor Suratman highlighted the laying of the foundation stone as a historic gesture, signaling the initiation of the Kotes Fish Monument’s construction and underlining the commitment to bolstering tourism in Kalikotes Village.
The monument aims to celebrate the village’s unique identity, with the kotes fish symbolizing its distinctiveness.
“This monument’s construction is poised to instill a renewed sense of pride within the community, motivating them to preserve and enhance their tourism offerings,” remarked Professor Suratman.
The Kotes Fish Monument is envisioned to become a landmark that captures the attention of Kalikotes Village residents and tourists exploring the region.
Designed with local ethos and distinctiveness, the monument seeks to set Kalikotes Village apart from other tourist spots while showcasing the bountiful natural resources associated with the kotes fish.
Professor Suratman expressed optimism that the monument’s construction marks the first stride towards positioning Kalikotes Village as a focal point within Kalikotes District.
He underscored the profound symbolism embedded in the fish’s name, representing Inspiration (I), Creativity (K), Adaptability (A), and Narrative (N).
The construction of the Kotes Fish Monument garnered widespread acclaim from the village government and Kalikotes Village residents.
They envision a future where Kalikotes Village thrives, and its residents enjoy enhanced welfare. Ponidi, the Head of Kalikotes Village, extended gratitude, stating, “On behalf of Kalikotes Village, I extend heartfelt appreciation for the assistance and backing received from various parties for the Kotes Fish Monument’s construction.”
