Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning the overall champion title at the 2025 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ONMIPA). This historic milestone marks UGM’s first overall victory after several years of placing as runner-up in the competition.
The event held at Universitas Padjadjaran on November 16–20, 2025, showcased the exceptional performance of the UGM contingent.
A total of 19 students competing in four fields, physics, biology, mathematics, and chemistry, delivered remarkable achievements and earned 14 medals.
The total awards include six gold medals, one silver medal, six bronze medals, and one honorable mention, securing UGM’s position as the overall champion.
In the mathematics category, UGM delivered a dominant performance, earning three gold medals through Rama Sulaiman Nurcahyo, Stephen Sanjaya, and Muhammad Hanif, as well as one bronze medal by Fajar Arif Shodiqin.
In biology, one gold medal was awarded to Erlangga Dief Putra Hamam, followed by a silver medal to Kevin Lensrich, and two bronze medals to Ganang Fattahuddien Attar and Tsaqifa Zuhayra Emery Bagus.
Meanwhile, in the chemistry category, Agatha Novi Febriyanti secured one gold medal, with Jonathan Aaron Gunawan and Rafif Dista Serano winning two bronze medals.
In physics, Ahmad Daffa Islamay Fasya Askari earned a gold medal, followed by a bronze medal from Alief Arsa Yudhistira, and an honorable mention for Zulfa Nailil Muna.

Chair of the UGM ONMIPA Community, Danu Ari Wibowo, stated that this achievement was the result of a long and rigorous process that began well before the competition.
He explained that the internal selection process commenced in January through an extensive recruitment involving hundreds of students.
“We began in January by opening the UGM contingent recruitment, which around 170 students joined,” he explained on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
The rigorous screening process ultimately yielded the top 10 participants in each field before advanced training was conducted.
After a temporary pause while awaiting the official competition guidelines, preparation resumed intensively from July to September.
“We conducted training for approximately two to three weeks, then selected the top five participants in each field, who later received further training to prepare for the regional selection,” he added.
Danu also highlighted the crucial support from various parties, including faculty members and previous ONMIPA veterans.
According to him, this synergy formed the foundation of UGM’s victory this year.
“We received full support from around 20 faculty members involved in various fields. Their contributions were invaluable in preparing participants for the internal, regional, and national rounds,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming that UGM’s historic success as the overall champion of ONMIPA 2025 was the result of collective effort and dedication.
“The synergy between students, veterans, and faculty members was the key factor that led UGM to secure the Overall Champion title at ONMIPA 2025,” he concluded.
