Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is proud to announce that its esteemed International Undergraduate Program (IUP) will continue this year for the agro and vocational clusters.
The Faculty of Animal Science (Animal Science UGM) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH UGM) are currently offering an International Undergraduate Program (IUP) within the agro cluster.
This year, the Vocational College (SV UGM) is introducing a new IUP in Civil Infrastructure Management and Maintenance, making it a newcomer to the IUP offerings.
According to Dr. Muhlisin, the IUP manager at Animal Science UGM, the program is now in its fourth year. He stated that the faculty has received international accreditation from ASIIN, meaning its curriculum meets international standards.
He explained that the program’s advantage is that students will study animal science from upstream to downstream.
“The difference with the regular curriculum, aside from being English-based, is that in this program, international exposure is mandatory, ranging from internships to student exchanges,” said Dr. Muhlisin on Tuesday (Feb. 11).
Similarly, FKH UGM has had an IUP for a year. Even before the IUP was introduced, the faculty had already offered English classes to its students. In addition to having international students, the program uses English as the medium of instruction.
“There are 70 international students on the faculty, most of whom are from Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam,” Professor Agung Budiyanto, the IUP manager at FKH UGM, explained.
One key advantage of the IUP at his faculty is that students have the opportunity to gain international exposure through internships and student exchanges, enhancing their English language skills and opening doors to global opportunities.
“IUP students at FKH UGM will have mentors to guide them in completing their studies,” he added.
Professor Budiyanto also noted that the career prospects for veterinary medicine graduates are very promising. The number of veterinary faculties in Indonesia is still limited, meaning the demand for veterinarians remains high.
“This means that there are plenty of career opportunities for graduates,” he said.
Likewise, SV UGM is opening registration for its international program this year, specifically for the Civil Infrastructure Management and Maintenance study program. The international class is open to both local and international prospective students.
While the curriculum is not significantly different from the regular program, this class will collaborate with international faculty to help students maximize their learning and compete globally.
Dr. Adhitya Yoga Purnama, the IUP manager at SV UGM, explained that the learning system will focus more on practical experience, as the vocational curriculum emphasizes 60% practice and 40% theory.
The IUP at SV UGM will also emphasize international exposure through summer courses, student exchanges, and internships.
“We are currently preparing for certification,” he added.
Dr. Purnama stated that prospective students need not worry about the career prospects of IUP graduates.
Based on a tracer study conducted by SV UGM, around 85% of graduates from the regular program were employed within six months after graduation.
As is known, UGM offers 29 IUP. Registration for prospective new students for the programs is open from Jan. 14 to Feb. 28.
Prospective students must carefully review the administrative requirements to avoid issues during registration.
Additionally, prospective students should prepare their English proficiency certificates and prepare to take the Gadjah Mada Scholastic Test (GMST).
After passing the administrative and testing stages, prospective students will also undergo an interview, which will contribute to their overall assessment for admission to Universitas Gadjah Mada.
