The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), has installed two new elevators designated specifically for members of the academic community with disabilities. The two new units are also intended for individuals with physical or health limitations.
Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Bayu Sutikno, stated that the addition of these two elevators demonstrates FEB UGM’s continued commitment to strengthening an inclusive and sustainable campus environment. The provision of these elevators is part of the faculty’s service initiatives to ensure that all members of its academic community, including students, have equal access to learning facilities.
“FEB UGM has provided two new elevator units in the Undergraduate Program and the Master of Science and Doctoral Programs, which are specifically available for members of the academic community with disabilities or those with physical or health limitations,” Bayu explained at FEB UGM on Friday (Feb. 27).
The elevators are expected to improve access to classrooms, the library, and other academic facilities, enabling students in need to participate more comfortably in the learning process.
“We hope that students who require assistance can more easily access learning resources and take part in the educational process with enthusiasm,” he added.
Dr. Sutikno emphasized that accessibility is a crucial aspect of creating a campus atmosphere that is friendly, inclusive, and supportive of the well-being of all community members. This facility not only serves as a mobility aid but also reflects the institution’s social awareness and commitment to equality.
“The addition of these dedicated elevators aligns with FEB UGM’s mission and its commitment to fostering a campus environment grounded in sustainability,” he said.
Meanwhile, for students without mobility limitations, Dr. Sutikno encouraged using stairs as an alternative form of light physical activity on campus, as part of efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.
