The UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) and Borneo Tarakan University (UBT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the field of education on Tuesday, Jul. 9, 2024, at the Tahir Foundation Postgraduate Building of FK-KMK UGM.
The Dean of FK-KMK UGM, Professor Yodi Mahendradhata, and the Rector of Borneo Tarakan University, Professor Adri Patton, conducted the signing.
The main objective of this collaboration is to enhance the development of human resource competencies in the Bachelor of Medicine Program and the Medical Profession Education Program at UBT.
Dean Yodi Mahendradhata said this meeting marks a historic achievement between FK-KMK UGM and UBT.
“Today, in addition to the signing of the cooperation agreement, there is also a discussion regarding the status of the selection results at UBT, which will determine the success of the first cohort of the UBT Medicine Program in achieving its goals,” Dean Mahendradhata stated.
With these selection results, he hopes UBT can place the best candidates to achieve the desired objective of producing reliable graduates who meet the qualifications.
As is known, FK-KMK UGM has been mandated as the Coordinator of the Academic Health System (AHS) in Region IV, which includes the Yogyakarta Special Region, Central Java, and all provinces in Kalimantan.
This gives FK-KMK UGM the responsibility to coordinate efforts to establish health study programs in these regions.
The signing of this cooperation agreement is a concrete step taken by FK-KMK UGM to meet the equitable need for doctors in Indonesia, necessitating cross-sectoral coordination in this effort.
Professor Adri Patton, Rector of Borneo Tarakan University, explained that the UBT Medicine Program has already accepted students and has conducted independent tests for the program.
“The opening of the UBT Medicine Program aims to facilitate medical education, particularly in remote areas, border regions, disadvantaged areas, coastal regions, and beaches. We hope that the data brought will allow these students to be accepted based on the established indicators so they can eventually return to their respective regions in North Kalimantan,” Professor Patton explained.
Borneo Tarakan University is the first state university in North Kalimantan. With seven faculties and 21 undergraduate programs, UBT has a significant opportunity to ensure the quality of education.
The existence of the Health Sciences Faculty with Diploma III and Bachelor’s programs in Midwifery and Nursing will be complemented by the Bachelor’s Medicine Program and Medical Profession Education Program starting in the 2024/2025 academic year.
