The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM) is committed to continually creating innovations that serve as intellectual products, contribute to society, and support Indonesia’s technological self-reliance.
The Dean of FMIPA UGM, Professor Kuwat Triyana, conveyed this in his dean’s report during the 69th FMIPA UGM Anniversary Open Senate Meeting, held in the FMIPA UGM Auditorium on Thursday (Sep. 19).
Professor Triyana highlighted various achievements across four key development areas: student employability and achievements, academic reputation, contributions to society, and the welfare of all academic staff.
UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia emphasized that advancements in science and technology enable a country to grow and progress.
These advancements contribute to productive work and support the nation’s development and sovereignty. Therefore, strengthening collaborations is closely linked to innovation-related agendas.
“I appreciate the business and industry networking events conducted by FMIPA UGM, including partnerships with Taiwan, Japan, and Pertamina,” she said.
On this occasion, the rector also encouraged FMIPA UGM to increase the number of postgraduate students to meet the university’s desired targets, enabling more flagship research to be carried out.
In his keynote speech, Andi Surya Boediman, CEO of Ideosource Entertainment, emphasized the importance of innovation, courage, and the ability to identify opportunities in the era of technological advancement and the industrial revolution.
“The readiness to innovate is not about our technological capability, but ourselves,” he stated.
He noted that everyone can see the emerging potential and position themselves to anticipate opportunities and be prepared.
However, maintaining the desire and personal resilience to keep learning, managing risks, and understanding one’s uniqueness and drive to differentiate oneself from others is equally important.
“We become innovative under great pressure, pushing us to seek creative solutions and find new ways to overcome obstacles. Therefore, love the problem, not the solution,” Boediman concluded.
