The 74th anniversary of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has set the stage for a vibrant celebration, fostering appreciation and camaraderie within the academic community.
From December 16 to 17, 2023, the festivities kicked off with the “Gowes Jelajah Menoreh” group cycling event in collaboration with GamaGo on Saturday morning, December 16.
Cycling enthusiasts, including faculty members and non-teaching staff, gathered energetically to participate in the event. The estimated 145-kilometer route, traversing Tugu, Wates, and reaching Bukit Menoreh, showcased the enthusiasm and unity of the participants.
“I express my gratitude to all alumni who participated. This is an annual event to strengthen our bond of friendship while indulging in the shared cycling hobby. Hopefully, this morning can be a good start to the anniversary celebration,” said KAGAMA official Professor Budi Santoso Wignyosukarto.
Professor Wignyosukarto noted that this year’s route, slightly longer than the previous 100 km, aims to provide inspiration through physical activity and serve as a moment of relaxation after daily work commitments. Participants started their journey at 06:30 and returned to UGM in the afternoon.
Cycling, a popular pastime among UGM communities, has led to the formation of the GamaGo community, which regularly organizes cycling events under the Gowes KAGAMA banner.
“We hope to strengthen the bonds among cycling enthusiasts in Yogyakarta and across Indonesia. Most importantly, today, we remind everyone to prioritize health and happiness,” he added.
The “Gowes Jelajah Menoreh” results from collaboration and support between KAGAMA and communities such as Rodalink Yogyakarta, Polygon Bikes, Pertamina Hulu Rokan, PT Waskita Karya, and PT Jamkrindo.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, the organizing committee addressed safety and medical aspects throughout the journey. Cyclists were accompanied and escorted along the route, with a dedicated medical unit on standby for emergencies.
“The committee has tried to prepare everything for security, comfort, and safety so that this activity runs smoothly. This is not a race but a happy ride. So, during cycling, let’s prioritize safety and make it enjoyable,” explained the committee chair Teguh.
Saturday morning’s atmosphere radiated warmth and camaraderie, creating a memorable experience beyond a simple cycling event.
The hope is that “Gowes Jelajah Menoreh” will continue to be a recurring event, strengthening solidarity within UGM communities and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through sports.
