To enhance adolescent health, nursing students from the UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) collaborated with the Donokerto Village Youth Organization to create “Angkringan Seroja Kekinian.”
This initiative, which focuses on reproductive and mental health for adolescents, aims to address the challenges faced by young people.
The Nursing Science Program, through the MBKM: Emergency and Disaster Health Management in Community activities, conducted outreach and education for the youth in Donokerto Village on Friday, Jun. 6, 2024.
Engaging with the Donokerto Village youth organization aimed to involve teenagers in activities that aligned with the tagline “from youth, by youth, and for youth.”
“The program covers reproductive health, mental health, and youth posyandu using a trendy, Instagrammable concept called Angkringan Seroja,” said Fatimah Azzahra, one of UGM student representatives, on Monday, Jul. 8, 2024.
Azzahra explained that Angkringan Seroja offers engaging educational activities addressing priority issues identified during assessments.
Activities include “Curahkan Isi Hatimu” sessions for sharing feelings, mental health talks, bingo, reproductive health discussions, action plans through Focus Group Discussions, short movies, and concluding with reflections on the films.
According to Azzahra, these diverse methods attract strong enthusiasm from teenagers. The UGM Nursing students partnered with the Psychology Services Unit at FK-KMK UGM and Turi Health Center to enhance the credibility and quality of the content.
Amalia Fauziah Zahra added that the attractive decoration setup created a special impression, making the participants feel more connected.
The angkringan cart provided a unique backdrop throughout the event, ensuring a non-formal atmosphere despite the structured and planned activities.
“String lights in the semi-indoor space made the activities more appealing and colorful,” said Zahra.
Angkringan Seroja received appreciation from various stakeholders, including Donokerto village officials, youth organization leaders, and the health center.
Ahmad Farozi, Chairman of the Donokerto village youth organization, expressed that Angkringan Seroja brought a fresh approach to their activities. He hopes the program’s lessons will benefit the participating teens in the future.
“Thank you very much for collaborating with the youth organization,” said Farozi.
Positive feedback also came from the participants, who found the activities very interesting and a breakthrough in adolescent health approaches, both in terms of knowledge of reproductive and mental health.
