Hundreds of leaders from 60 fisheries and marine higher education institutions in Indonesia gathered at the UGM Faculty of Agriculture to participate in the Indonesian Forum of Fisheries and Marine Higher Education Institutions (FP2TPKI).
The 2nd forum, organized by the Department of Fisheries on July 22-23, 2023, was attended by approximately 180 participants, including deans, directors, heads of departments, and heads of study programs from various fisheries and marine higher education institutions in Indonesia.
Head of the UGM Department of Fisheries, Professor Alim Isnansetyo, explained that FP2TPKI is held twice yearly for communication and discussion among higher education institutions involved in fisheries and marine education.
The talks cover topics such as curricula, cooperation, and the three pillars of higher education to advance the education system and produce excellent human resources for developing Indonesia’s fisheries and marine sectors.
Dean of the UGM Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Jaka Widada, opened the second FP2TPKI meeting. He emphasized the importance of communication forums for higher education institution leaders in developing Indonesia’s education system.
Chair of FP2TPKI, Professor Maftuch, spoke on the increasing number of members and the spirit of organizational development that needs to be maintained.
The 2nd FP2TPKI meeting at UGM took place over two days, a talk show on the first day and panel discussions on establishing and evaluating independent accreditation agencies, establishing study program communication forums, and organizational development on the second day.
The talk show, which discussed the history and early development of FP2TPKI, featured speakers: Professor Indra Jaya (IPB University), Professor Yohannes Hutabarat (Diponegoro University), and Dr. Triyanto (Universitas Gadjah Mada), who were the initiators and organizers of FP2TPKI in the previous period.
They presented the history and objectives of the forum, as well as ideas and suggestions for the organization’s future development.
The second-day panel discussion included evaluating the formulation and operation of the Independent Accreditation Agency (LAM) per the latest regulations.
The next panel session discussed launching the study program forum management and issues related to study programs, led by Dr. Umbu P.L. Dawa (UKAW Kupang).
The activities continued with discussions on the Engineering Profession Law No. 11 of 2014, the Professional Engineer Study Program, the establishment of marine engineering bodies, and professional engineers certification.
This discussion featured speakers such as the Secretary-General of PII (Indonesian Engineers Association), Bambang Goeritno, and the Chair of BKTK-PII, Dr. Ady Candra, with Dr. T. Ersti Yulika Sari from the Maritime University of Raja Ali Haji as the moderator.
The meeting concluded with the approval of the organization’s articles of association, the dissemination of FP2TPKI’s agenda, the signing of an MoU with NGOs, a presentation by the Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) from Korea, and sharing by motivator Dr. Aqua Dwipayana.
