The Mine-Eye Gama team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) secured 2nd place in the Business Challenge Track category of the Astranauts 2024 competition. Organized by PT Astra Digital, Mine-Eye Gama was one of the seven finalists out of 2,400 applicants.
The Mine-Eye Gama team consists of Daniel Imanuel Manafe, Himawan Wicaksono, Stephanus Kevin Andika Rata (Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology 2022), Menliman Joyfal Gulo (Cartography and Remote Sensing 2022), Sabila Hestuning (Management 2023), and Soen Eliora Valerie Natania (Biology 2023).
Guided by Jans Hendry, the Mine-Eye Gama team presented their innovative idea to address the rapid changes in mining topography, which require periodic adjustments to safety standards.
Daniel Imanuel Manafe explained that periodic remote acquisition and monitoring of open pits are essential to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure smooth operations. Unfortunately, real-time monitoring is currently inefficient, disrupting workflow and mining operations and ultimately decreasing productivity.
“At PT Pamapersada Nusantara, conventional geospatial data acquisition can be conducted terrestrially. This method is accurate but inefficient for areas with dynamic terrain changes,” he said at the UGM campus on Friday (Jun. 14).
Manafe explained that Mine-Eye Gama’s idea provides a solution for efficient geospatial data acquisition using UAV drones and 3D LiDAR. The solution includes a control and transmission system via a private broadband network that can optimize large data acquisition in real-time from a website for surveyors at the Custom Ground Control Station.
Manafe expressed his delight with this competition. In addition to winning second place, the Mine-Eye Gama team also had the opportunity to collaborate with the Astra Group and receive exclusive mentorship from experts and industry leaders.
“Moreover, we had the chance to meet and pitch our ideas to venture capitalists who are partners of Astranauts 2024,” he said.
