Self-potential is the unique set of individual qualities, including strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities. To discover it, one must first understand themselves by seeking as many experiences as possible.
This theme was highlighted during the Inspirational Student Talk Show, held on Thursday (Aug. 1) at the Tahir Foundation Postgraduate Building, UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM), as part of the Pionir Morfogenesis series.
The talk show featured three outstanding students and alumni from various programs within FK-KMK UGM. They shared their stories and experiences, hoping to inspire the new class of 2024.
The three speakers were Brian Arianto Tanuwidjaja from the Medicine program, Kartika Arivia Khairunnisa from the Nutrition and Health program, and Syafira Izza Azzahra Adani from the Nursing program.
Syafira Adani shared tips on exploring and developing one’s potential through self-management, time management, and other strategies for achieving academic and non-academic success from each speaker’s perspective and experience.
According to Adani, the potential is a unique trait in every individual. To discover it, we must first understand ourselves.
“The way to do this is by gaining a lot of experience. Take a chance, and frequently engage in self-reflection. We should know what we like and are good at and continue to delve into that to learn more,” Adani said.
Kartika Arivia Khairunnisa also shared her tips as an outstanding student, emphasizing the importance of having clear goals and good time management, especially for those studying at FK-KMK UGM.
“As we know, at FK-KMK UGM, no matter the program, we are always pressed for time, and sometimes, for us in Medicine, Nutrition and Health, or Nursing, 24 hours in a day just isn’t enough. So, it’s about how we manage our time,” Khairunnisa explained.
Brian Tanuwidjaja mentioned that failure is the best teacher. He shared his experience of failing to participate in the IISMA student exchange program, trusting that it might not have been meant for him. However, he remained hopeful and trusted in God’s plan.
These outstanding students also emphasized the importance of maintaining mental health during learning to achieve academic and non-academic success.
