The UGM Faculty of Psychology (Psychology UGM) reaffirms its commitment to supporting equitable and inclusive access to education by implementing the UKT Scholarship Policy. For the 2024/2025 academic year, the faculty has accepted 68 new students through the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP) pathway.
Of these, 22% of the new students on the faculty receive a 100% Single Tuition Fee (UKT) subsidy. Meanwhile, 32%, or 21 other new students, receive UKT subsidies of 75%, 50%, and 25%.
“Approximately 22% or 1 in 5 new students receive a 100% UKT subsidy, meaning they pay zero rupiah for UKT,” said Dean of Psychology UGM, Dr. Rahmat Hidayat, in a statement to reporters on Sunday (Jun. 16).
Dean Hidayat emphasized that Psychology UGM provides equal educational opportunities for all prospective students. Economic limitations are not an obstacle for academically capable students to study at UGM.
“The Faculty of Psychology is committed to providing equal opportunities to anyone, especially high school students, to continue their education at the faculty, regardless of their financial ability or family welfare,” he said.
He added that academic ability is the primary consideration in student admissions at the Faculty of Psychology.
“The only thing considered is academic ability because it is very competitive to be accepted into,” he explained.
The faculty supports students from economically disadvantaged families through UKT subsidy assistance and opportunities to receive scholarships from various sources, such as scholarships from the Psychology Alumni Family (KAPSIGAMA).
“From experience, many students not only receive UKT relief but also scholarships from alumni,” he added.
Furthermore, the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources at Psychology UGM, Dr. Sumaryono, stated that determining the UKT amount charged to each new student varies based on various components.
“It is based on the parents’ readiness and income and various factors related to the economic burden of the immediate family, as shown by valid evidence,” explained Dr. Sumaryono.
In addition, Dr. Sumaryono mentioned the role of the student team in verifying data if there are appeals or objections to the established UKT.
“In the future, students will also be involved in verifying data for UKT determination,” he added.
According to the vice-dean, the policy adopted by the Faculty of Psychology is expected to facilitate access for high-achieving students to quality higher education.
