UGM Pharmacy Alums Family (Kagama) organized the 2023 Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Summit with the theme “Empowered Healthcare Professionals to Achieve a Resilient Health System.”
The event occurred for three days, from July 27 to 29, 2023, at Alana Hotel & Convention Center Yogyakarta.
The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Summit is the most significant annual agenda of the alums family, involving more than 35 speakers from professionals and experts in pharmacy, medical devices, and healthcare services.
Over 250 participants from various regions of Indonesia attended the summit. They came from different backgrounds, including healthcare workers, researchers, government stakeholders, and pharmaceutical/medical device practitioners.
The event started with an opening ceremony featuring speeches from the Head of the Yogyakarta Health Office representing the Governor of Yogyakarta, followed by speeches from the Chair of UGM Pharmacy Alums Family, pharmacist Masrizal A. Syarif, and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Satibi, and a studium generale by Dr. Ryu Hasan on neuroscience and human adaptive traits.
The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Summit included symposiums with experts and workshops on drug registration and evaluation and Good Medical Device Manufacturing Practices from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
Participants in this event gained updates on information and knowledge and earned 25 Participation Credit Unit points from the Indonesian Pharmacists Association.
On the first day, Director of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience, pharmacist Roy Himawan; Indonesian Food and Drug Authority representative Dr. Ria Christine; and Vice President of the International Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Group/IMPG, Evie Yulin, presented “Health Resilience and Acceleration of Access to Innovative Drugs,” moderated by pharmacist Pre Agusta.
On the second day, the topics were regulations and halal certification, pharmacovigilance, drug safety control, and the development of medical devices in Indonesia.
The afternoon session on the second day of the event featured symposiums on the challenges of validating transportation in Good Medical Device Manufacturing Practices and a case study on Ethylene Glycol/Diethylene Glycol contamination by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority and practitioners to maintain the safety of pharmaceutical products.
It concluded with discussions involving experts, such as Roy Himawan, Mayemi Mutiara Situmorang, MD, and Dr. Pedro Franco on Orphan Drugs and Louisa Endang and Nurul Falah Eddy Pariang on Interprofessional Collaboration through Technology and Good Communication.
The summit on the third day discussed the Role of Pharmacists & the Utilization of Social Media in Health Promotion Efforts by Dita Novianti Sugandi and Kurniawan Satria Denta, MD, and the Role of Women’s Leadership in National Development by Professor Dwikorita, Evie Yulin, and Professor Wening Udasmoro.
Through the summit, it is hoped that the capacity and capabilities of pharmacists, whether in the industry, government, or pharmacy services, will be enhanced to support the professionalism required to achieve resilience in the national health system.
