Lively movements from 35 UGM employees enlivened a Pound Fit session organized by the Health Promoting University (HPU) and the Integrated Health Services Bureau on Friday (Dec. 12) at the south yard of the UGM Central Office. The activity was supported by Fit Hub Gejayan, which provided instructors and supporting facilities.
Pound Fit is a unique cardio workout that combines drumming movements using special sticks (Ripstix) set to energetic music, blended with elements of yoga and Pilates. For one hour, participants followed a series of Pound Fit routines with varying tempos. The rhythmic sound of Ripstix, combined with the instructor’s guidance, created an energetic atmosphere that allowed participants to fully enjoy the early-morning workout.
To conclude the exercise session, Fit Hub added excitement with a prize-based plank challenge. Competing by duration, participants tested their muscle endurance and balance. One by one, participants dropped out, leaving two winners who managed to hold the plank position the longest, each for 1 minute and 50 seconds.

One of the participants, Yunita Detrina, a staff member from the Faculty of Pharmacy, described the activity as a way to relieve stress from daily work routines. She shared that she regularly engages in various types of exercise similar to Pound Fit.
“The movements are indeed quite challenging because they require balance and the use of equipment, but for me, this is also a way to stabilize my emotions for staying strong and focused,” said Nita.
According to her, sports activities like this support the health of the academic community.
“I hope there will be even more types of sports activities. Besides being entertaining, exercise is essential, especially for someone like me who is already in their 40s,” the staff added.

Fitness Consultant Leader of Fit Hub Gejayan, Paulina Evita, expressed her appreciation for the participants’ enthusiasm.
“Previously, we held a Body Combat session, and this time, Pound Fit. Hopefully, in the future we can collaborate again on activities such as Pilates or other fitness classes,” she said.
Evita added that the collaboration ran smoothly and received positive responses. Several participants from previous activities have even joined as members.
“We hope that the collaboration between Fit Hub and UGM can continue and expand to other faculties. The participants’ enthusiasm has been excellent, and we are happy to support a healthy lifestyle within the campus environment,” she concluded.
