Professor Pratikno, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Universitas Gadjah Mada (MWA UGM), inaugurated the new entrance access and facade of the UGM Academic Hospital (RSA UGM) on Sunday (Feb. 16).
The event, held in front of RSA UGM, Kronggahan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, was part of efforts to enhance excellent healthcare services.
The inauguration was attended by UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia, Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) Professor Yodi Mahendradhata, and RSA UGM leadership.
Professor Ova Emilia expressed her appreciation for the support from the academic community and hospital staff in realizing excellent healthcare services at RSA UGM.
She also thanked the Chair of MWA UGM for his ideas and innovations in developing RSA UGM.
“This new facade is both functional and aesthetic,” she explained.
Professor Pratikno recalled the long journey of RSA UGM, which had once been abandoned. Under the mandate of the previous rector, Professor Panut Mulyono, he quickly initiated renovations to assist in handling the escalating COVID-19 crisis in Yogyakarta.
Professor Pratikno emphasized the importance of better access to the hospital, particularly in emergencies where long queues at traffic lights could pose a serious problem.
“Improving access to RSA UGM has been one of the priorities because we must consider patients from the start to the end, not just when they arrive here,” he said.
Professor Pratikno, currently serving as the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare services and supporting efforts to prevent various health issues in the community.
According to him, educational institutions like UGM play an important role in educating the public about healthy living.
“I urge RSA UGM to continue accompanying and educating the wider community, particularly on reducing stunting rates,” he hoped.
The new RSA UGM facade features exposed brick as the main design element.
This concept strengthens the hospital’s visual identity and provides a natural, warm, and friendly impression for patients and visitors.
Exposed brick was chosen due to its various advantages, such as its natural texture, which offers visual comfort; its timeless color, which pairs well with multiple design elements; and its high durability.
Moreover, this facade reflects RSA UGM’s commitment to sustainability principles through eco-friendly natural materials.
The inauguration of the new facade was marked by a symbolic jar-breaking ceremony by the attending officials, followed by a group photo session.
With its new, more modern appearance and improved access, RSA UGM is expected to be even more prepared to provide excellent healthcare services to the community.
