UGM is once again mourning the loss of one of its finest figures. Professor Retantyo Wardoyo passed away on Wednesday, Jul. 10, 2024, at 10:30 AM WIB at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta.
He was laid to rest at the UGM Family Cemetery in Sawit Sari on Thursday, Jul. 11, 2024, at 10:30 AM following a memorial service at UGM’s Balairung.
“On behalf of the entire Universitas Gadjah Mada community, I express our deepest condolences on the passing of Professor Retantyo Wardoyo,” said the UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito.
During his 41 years of service at the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM), Professor Wardoyo was known as a friendly and patient colleague. He was also recognized for his diligence in studying his field.
Due to his dedication, just about 43 days ago, he was inaugurated as a professor of algorithms and computation at FMIPA UGM.
In his inaugural address, delivered on May 24, 2024, he presented a speech titled “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: A Classical to Modern Review.”
He observed the growing phenomenon of artificial intelligence usage in various applications in daily life, which motivated him to explore the concept of artificial intelligence from classical to modern perspectives.
Since his doctoral studies at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, his research has focused on the use of artificial intelligence, particularly in healthcare.
“On this solemn occasion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the late Professor Retantyo Wardoyo for his service and dedication to UGM, especially to FMIPA UGM. May all his contributions to knowledge and his work pave the way for the development of future sciences,” Dr. Sujito concluded.
