Professor Sri Adiningsih of the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business, a former chair of the Presidential Advisory Council for 2014-2019, has passed away.
She breathed her last on Saturday (17/6) at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital at the age of 62, leaving behind her beloved husband, surgical oncologist Kunta Setiaji MD, and her daughter, Stri Nariswari Setiaji.
The funeral of Professor Adiningsih took place on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the Gunung Sempu Hills Memorial Park in Yogyakarta. A series of tribute processions were held at UGM Central Building and GKJ Sawokembar Gondokusuman.
Her passing deeply saddened the entire academic community of UGM, especially the extended family of the Faculty of Economics and Business.
“Her passing is a great loss to all of us. We express our gratitude and thanks to everyone who has prayed and provided moral support, especially colleagues, associates, and the entire medical team at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, who wholeheartedly cared for the deceased in her struggle for recovery,” said a representative of the professor’s extended family.
The tribute procession was attended by many people, including the academic community, officials, and others who remembered Professor Adiningsih’s contributions.
“We at the faculty are deeply saddened, along with the entire family. We remember her as a friendly figure who often helped us with our tasks,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Professor Didi Achjari.
“Her recent thinking, especially regarding the Digital Economy, also resonated with us and has been very beneficial for the academic development of economics and business.”
He added that the departed professor made significant contributions in various fields of economics and business, such as macroeconomics, banking and financial institutions, and monetary economics workshops.
Throughout her more than 35 years of service, the departed professor was the Head of the UGM Center for Asia Pacific Economic Studies and Chair of Research and Training Management for Economics and Business at the Faculty of Economics and Business in 2014.
Professor Adiningsih also ventured into politics as a member of the expert team for the National General Outlines (GBHN) in the defense and security sector in 1998 and as an ombudsman for BPPN (Bank Restructuring Agency) in 1999.
Her performance and credibility were evident through her selection as the Secretary of the Institutional Commission and her direct appointment by President Joko Widodo as the Chair of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), making her the first woman to hold that position during President Joko Widodo’s initial term.
“We have lost one of the nation’s finest daughters. As the Chair of Wantimpres, she was a woman of great integrity, tidiness, and discipline, always cheerful. She was highly productive in providing hundreds of recommendations to the president, whether in the form of thoughts, ideas, or books,” said a representative of the Presidential Advisory Council, Sidarto Danusubroto.
The departure of Professor Adiningsih leaves behind many memories of her contributions, achievements, and works for the nation. May her good deeds be accepted and her soul rest in perfect peace.
