Dr. Thomas Dicky Hastjarjo, a professor at the UGM Faculty of Psychology, passed away on Thursday (3/8) at 00:36 AM at Panti Rapih Hospital at 67.
The late professor’s body was buried at the UGM family cemetery in Sawitsari after a funeral ceremony at the UGM Central Building on Friday (4/8).
Chair of the UGM Professor Council, Professor Mochammad Maksum, expressed his condolences for the passing of the esteemed teacher and one of the nation’s best sons who educated psychology graduates in Indonesia.
“On behalf of the UGM family, I extend our condolences for the passing of the late professor. May the deceased find the best place in the sight of God and be accepted for all of his deeds. May the family left behind always be given patience, fortitude, and sincerity,” he said.
Professor Maksum recalled that Thomas Dicky Hastjarjo, during his career as an academic, always appeared simple and unpretentious in his daily life.
“He often came to and left campus on a bicycle,” he reminisced.
According to him, the late Thomas Dicky Hastjarjo was appointed professor at the Faculty of Psychology on May 5, 2008. During the inauguration ceremony, Professor Hastjarjo delivered an inaugural speech titled “Integrating Psychology of Opportunities or Dreams.”
In his inaugural speech, Professor Hastjarjo mentioned that psychology is a fragmented and grouped discipline. The fragmentation of psychology arises from various factors, including the lack of consensus on the definition and object of study of psychology and differences in theories, methodologies, and applied sciences.
Professor Hastjarjo was born in Solo on December 28, 1955. He completed his undergraduate education in psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada, while his master’s and doctorate degrees were obtained from American University, United States.
Throughout his career, he held positions such as a member of the Faculty of Psychology Senate, a member of the UGM Academic Senate, a coordinator of the Master’s Program in Psychology, secretary of the General and Experimental Psychology Department, and the head of the Doctoral Program in Psychology.
