The President Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Ghani, shared tips on becoming a professional with strong character.
He presented these tips to 286 prospective UGM Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM) graduates on Monday (Aug. 26) at the Professor Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture.
The tips included eight capacities prospective graduates should develop: risk-taking, curiosity, managing diversity, driving innovation, networking, digital leadership, driving execution, and self-differentiation.
These capacities are intended to help the graduates become leaders in the workplace.
“To become a leader, you must hone and enhance these capacities. For example, curiosity, which reflects a high level of inquisitiveness, can lead to innovative and creative individuals and greatly aid in advancing one’s career,” said Dr. Ghani.
Encouraging the prospective graduates, Dr. Ghani emphasized the importance of bravery in taking risks, coupled with responsibility for well-considered decisions. As future professionals, graduates are also expected to build beneficial relationships and not be afraid to step out of their comfort zones.
As the President Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III, he also outlined the strategies employed by PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) to support self-sufficiency in sugar and food production. PTPN III supports these goals through ecosystem strengthening and farmer empowerment.
“Such matters are essential for the prospective graduates to understand. Graduates of Agriculture UGM should be more aware and responsive to the importance of direct contributions to the agricultural sector. While academic performance is essential, demonstrating soft skills is crucial for competing in the real world,” he explained.
