The opening ceremony for the 74th anniversary of UGM, carrying the theme “Digital Transformation: Harmonizing Innovation and Humanity,” was held on Friday (23/6).
Thousands of UGM community members attended this year’s opening ceremony. It featured various activities, including a sports session, the formation of the UGM logo by participants, a fashion contest, and entertainment.
On this occasion, the UGM Data-mart and e-Mall were launched, along with the publication of the book “One-Year Leadership Achievement of the Rector of UGM.”
“We hope that all the progress we strive to achieve, our shared challenge, will not diminish our humanity. Instead, it will make us stronger, more capable of creating and spreading benefits to the wider community,” said the rector.
In addition to the UGM community, the event was also attended by representatives from several UGM partners and the nearby community. The rector invited UGM community members and partners to work together to advance UGM.
“Thank you to everyone who participated. Let all of us who love UGM strive for the glory of Universitas Gadjah Mada,” he added.
This year’s ceremony featured the raising of banners by three drones flown above the UGM Central Building courtyard. One of the drones used was developed by the UGM’s uncrewed aerial vehicle research team, Gamaforce.
The Head of the 74th Anniversary Organizing Committee, Professor Selo, explained that harmonizing innovation and humanity is an interesting issue to address amidst the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“The industrial revolution should not erode our humanity. The anniversary celebration is expected to provide a special and memorable momentum for the academic community and our partners, strengthening our ability to face the significant challenges in balancing innovation and human values,” he explained.
Professor Selo explained that various activities had been prepared to enliven this year’s celebration, including art and sports competitions and webinars.
“The series of events will begin today and conclude with an open meeting on December 19,” he added.
