To strengthen the collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the Banyuwangi Regency Government, the Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, MD, along with her team, conducted a working visit to Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, on Friday (28/7).
In her speech, the Rector of UGM expressed her appreciation to the Banyuwangi Regent for the warm reception in Banyuwangi. She hoped that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed some time ago could be continued through cooperation in various areas.
“Finally, I can fulfill my promise to visit Banyuwangi, and it turns out that Banyuwangi is impressive and beautiful. It’s evident from the many regional heads who want to visit here,” she explained.
The Rector’s visit to Banyuwangi was also a part of her visit to the locations where students were conducting Community Service (KKN-PPM). The Rector of UGM stated that KKN students carried a mission from UGM to share and act as development facilitators.
The Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, revealed that Banyuwangi is actively pursuing innovations in various fields.
“Every week, we demand innovation from all government agencies. Some innovations in Banyuwangi include Banyuwangi Sehat (Healthy Banyuwangi), public service innovations, and the ‘Bunga Desa’ program (regent working in villages). Every Friday, we hold a weekly performance evaluation to ensure that programs are carried out on time and achieve their targets,” she explained.
The Banyuwangi Regent further expressed her hope that the presence of KKN students in Banyuwangi can provide inspiration and innovations for the Banyuwangi Regency Government, from the village to the district levels.
“We often meet with the KKN students to gather input for development programs in Banyuwangi,” she added.
In closing her speech, the Banyuwangi Regent expressed her hope that everyone visiting Banyuwangi can return.
“Hopefully, all of you can return to Banyuwangi,” she concluded.
