The Academic Hospital of Universitas Gadjah Mada (RSA UGM) has officially been granted Class A Hospital status by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI). This marks a new chapter for RSA UGM as a rapidly developing institution in healthcare, education, and medical research—ready to take on a strategic role in the national healthcare system.
The achievement is a tangible reflection of RSA UGM’s ongoing commitment to improving service quality. It also represents the state’s recognition of the crucial role that teaching hospitals play in strengthening the national health system.
Class A Hospital status is the highest classification for hospitals in Indonesia. It is reserved for institutions that offer a complete range of specialist and subspecialist services and serve as top-tier referral centers. RSA UGM was confirmed to meet all necessary criteria through the Compliance Assessment Report for Business Licensing and Class Upgrade, Document Number YR.02.01/D/VI.6/710/2025, issued by the Ministry of Health. This classification is not merely administrative—it also signifies the hospital’s systemic readiness to manage complex medical cases.
RSA UGM President Director Dr. Darwito expressed his gratitude for this milestone.
He stated that this achievement would provide new momentum to expand partnerships and foster innovation in the health sector. Furthermore, RSA UGM remains committed to strengthening its role in producing healthcare professionals who are responsive to current and future challenges.
“This accomplishment is the result of the hard work of the entire hospital community, as well as strong support from UGM, our partners, and the public. Class A status is not the end, but the beginning of a greater commitment to continually enhance service quality and contribute to medical education and research in Indonesia,” he said.
Dr. Darwito noted that since 2012, RSA UGM has continued to grow in various areas, including the improvement of healthcare facilities, the strengthening of hospital information systems, and the development of human resources. The hospital not only focuses on medical services but also on integrating education and research into every aspect of its operations.
As a state university teaching hospital, RSA UGM serves as a clinical learning center for medical and other health sciences students. These students gain the opportunity to learn from real-world cases managed professionally, offering a rich and in-depth clinical experience.
With this new status, Dr. Darwito stated that RSA UGM now joins the ranks of Indonesia’s elite hospitals, which can provide comprehensive health services. The hospital is expected to serve as a primary referral center for handling complex medical cases and contribute to the management of national health crises.
In addition to strengthening its position in the national healthcare landscape, RSA UGM is also ready to build cross-sector collaborations to support evidence-based health policies.
“This achievement marks an important moment for UGM to expand its positive impact in realizing a more just and equitable public health system,” he said.
Through this achievement, RSA UGM further demonstrates its dedication to becoming an excellent and humanistic teaching hospital. Amid the dynamic challenges of global health, the role of teaching hospitals like RSA UGM is increasingly critical in preparing a resilient and adaptive health system.
RSA UGM will continue to drive research-based innovation and expand access to healthcare services for all segments of society.
“With synergy between service, education, and research, RSA UGM is ready to become a locomotive of health advancement, starting from Yogyakarta to the world,” Dr. Darwito concluded.
