Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has reopened registration for the second wave of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP).
This international-class program is designed to offer an academic experience with global standards, including English-language instruction, student exchange opportunities, and international research collaboration.
UGM offers 1,154 seats through the IUP pathway this year, distributed across 31 study programs.
Dr. Sigit Priyanta, Secretary of the Directorate of Education and Teaching at UGM, stated that the IUP has entered its second registration wave.
Registration for the second wave runs from Apr. 10 to May 14, 2025. The entrance exams will be held from May 22 to 25, 2025, and the results will be announced on Jun. 4, 2025.
“There are a total of 1,154 seats for the IUP pathway at UGM, distributed across 31 study programs. This can be an additional consideration for prospective students to explore and apply to various programs,” said Dr. Priyanta during UGM Update, which was broadcast live on UGM’s official YouTube and Instagram accounts on Tuesday (Apr. 15).
Prospective students must have graduated from high school (or equivalent) in the past three years and provide proof of graduation.
They must also demonstrate good English proficiency with a TOEFL score of approximately 500–550 or equivalent (IELTS or AcEPT UGM), pass the Gadjah Mada Scholastic Test (GMST), and be willing to undergo further selection processes based on the requirements of their chosen study program.
Selection stages vary by faculty. The selection process for the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM) includes an assessment of academic transcripts, UTBK scores, a Computer-Based Test (CBT), and proof of English proficiency.
For other faculties, the selection involves English and scholastic tests (AcEPT and GMST).
Applicants who pass the first stage (AcEPT and GMST) will proceed to the second stage.
For applicants to the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM), this may include an interview, a Situational Judgement Test (SJT), and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI).
Some programs, such as the Faculties of Psychology (Psychology UGM), Law (FH UGM), and Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM), also require essay writing.
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) applicants will also participate in a Leaderless Group Discussion or Focus Group Discussion.
“For further details, prospective applicants can visit the official website at um.ugm.ac.id,” said Dr. Priyanta.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aryan Morita, Head of the Undergraduate Program in Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM), announced that the IUP will open for the first time in 2025 during the second IUP intake at UGM.
“Students enrolled in the IUP will gain international exposure. In their sixth semester or third year, they will participate in international mobility programs at partner universities of FKG UGM. International lecturers from our partner universities will also teach them,” she said.
Dr. Andung Bayu Sekaranom, the IUP management team at the Faculty of Geography (Geography UGM), explained that the IUP offers several advantages, including an international curriculum, lecturers holding master’s and doctoral degrees from foreign universities, and opportunities for student exchanges.
“Students are required to participate in a minimum six-month exchange program abroad. They will be prepared to take courses at international institutions. They can choose from several prominent universities in Europe, Taiwan, Korea, and Australia,” he said.
Professor Roto, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM), mentioned that FMIPA UGM currently manages several IUPs.
The IUPs in Computer Science and Chemistry have been running for over 14 years.
“This year, we are opening three new IUPs: Mathematics with a concentration in Industrial Mathematics, Statistics focusing on Data Science, and Industrial Physics under the Physics program,” he explained.
For the IUPs in Computer Science, Chemistry, and Electronics and Instrumentation, FMIPA UGM has launched double degree programs in collaboration with international partner universities.
“Additionally, our IUPs attract international students from countries such as Iran, Egypt, and Japan,” he said.
On that occasion, Professor Roto shared tips on choosing a study program and successfully applying to the IUP.
First, prospective students should consider their career goals, obtain parental support, and apply as early as possible.
“If you’re confident in your choice of program, apply early. The closer it gets to the deadline, the fewer spots will be available. So it’s best to start now,” Professor Roto advised.
