The UGM Vocational College (SV UGM) held an alumni gathering for its 15th-anniversary celebration. This year’s “Connecting Generations, Inspiring Change” gathering occurred on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at SV UGM Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC).
The Kavogama Awards scholarship, funded by donations from alumni, was presented during this event. This scholarship provides financial assistance to outstanding students from SV UGM.
Symbolically, the scholarships were awarded to representatives of two students.
“This scholarship reflects the alumni’s care for the younger generation. Thank you to the alumni for their donations, which show concern for our students,” said Yanto Harlianto, Chair of SV UGM’s Alumni Family (Kavogama).
Harlianto added that they will continue to support academically outstanding and underprivileged students and provide internship opportunities.
“We will help students with internships, and after graduation, we will provide job vacancy information and assist with industrial visit programs,” he explained.
Professor Agus Maryono, Dean of SV UGM, also expressed appreciation and gratitude for the scholarship.
He hopes that alumni will continue to assist students currently pursuing their studies.
“I hope alumni can help the students by facilitating internships or providing sponsorships. It doesn’t need to be a lot; every bit helps,” he stated.
In addition to providing scholarships, SV UGM recognized and awarded six selected alumni who have successfully created jobs or become entrepreneurs.
These six alumni come from various study programs and are involved in diverse businesses.
Examples include Food and Beverage (FnB) ventures, mining management, travel, maggot cultivation, fertilizer production, and more.
The alumni shared insights into their businesses and inspirational stories during the event.
“As much as possible, alumni should have their businesses,” said Professor Maryono.
The dean mentioned that alumni have great opportunities to be invited back to campus as practitioner lecturers or guest speakers in Entrepreneurship courses.
The experiences gained by alumni can be shared with students to enhance their knowledge and provide real-world insights into the job market and entrepreneurship.
