Surgical oncologist Dr. Darwito, MD, the President Director of UGM Academic Hospital, stated that his hospital is adding the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) facility, also known as heart catheterization.
This Cath Lab facility aims to provide swift and accurate healthcare services for cases of heart attacks.
“The community indeed requires this service as heart attacks are fatal cases that demand immediate attention,” he said at UGM Academic Hospital on Monday (8/14).
He explained that this hospital meets the standard requirements for operating the Cath Lab service under the Ministry of Health Regulation No. 91 of 2014 on the Cardiovascular Technical Service Standard.
This is also supported by the Diagnostic and/or Interventional Radiology License issued by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency and the existence of medical specialists at the hospital, including interventional cardiologists, thoracic cardiovascular surgeons, neuro-interventional specialists, and interventional radiologists.
Unfortunately, the Cath Lab service at the hospital is not yet available for BPJS Kesehatan participants due to the hospital’s ongoing process for approval of the credential cooperation, which has been underway since May 2023.
UGM Academic Hospital hopes that the collaboration with BPJS Kesehatan can be realized soon, enabling BPJS Kesehatan participants to access heart examinations.
“With a substantial investment in the Cath Lab facility along with supporting human resources and complete permits, UGM Academic Hospital hopes the Cath Lab can soon be accessible to the community, resulting in improved life expectancy and prevention of death due to heart attacks. The role of BPJS Kesehatan is highly anticipated,” explained the president director, who is also the head of the Yogyakarta Indonesian Hospital Association (Persi DIY).
