Forty-two high schools and vocational schools in the Gunungkidul Regency of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) took part in an information session about UGM’s new student admission for the 2025 academic excellence-based selection (SNBP) and entrance test (SNBT).
The event took place on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at the Gunungkidul Secondary Education Center.
According to UGM’s Director of Education and Teaching, Professor Gandes Retno Rahayu, this session is an effort to fulfill the mandate from the National Selection Committee for New Student Admission (SNPMB) that follows the principles of FETALA: Flexible, Efficient, Transparent, Fair, Conflict-Free, and Accountable.
“We are targeting areas where there is a high risk of limited access to information, such as Gunungkidul Regency,” she explained on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2025.
In collaboration with the Gunungkidul Secondary Education Center, this event successfully engaged 42 high schools and vocational schools across 10 districts in the region, including Panggang, Paliyan, Sapto Sari, Tepus, Rongkop, Semanu, Ponjong, Karangmojo, Wonosari, and Playen.
In his speech at the event, the Head of the Gunungkidul Secondary Education Center, Tukiman, stated that while Gunungkidul has a relatively high life expectancy, this potential contrasts with the low desire to pursue higher education.
According to Tukiman, the average education level in the area remains relatively low.
“Most of the community’s education is up to the second year of middle school,” he noted.
The information material was presented by UGM’s Admission Outreach Team, which Professor Sugeng Sapto Surjono, the Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM), represented.
Professor Surjono began the session by explaining the various selection pathways and study programs available at UGM.
He mentioned that in 2025, UGM will allocate 30% of its new student quota through SNBP and another 30% through SNBT, with the remaining 40% being filled through independent selection.
The SNBP selection process has entered the registration phase, which started on Jan. 13, 2025, and will continue until Feb. 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, the SNBT registration also started on Jan. 13, 2025, and will remain open until Mar. 27, 2025.
Before this, schools had completed filling in data on the Student and School Database (PDSS) and locked the SNPMB School account data from Jan. 6 to Jan. 31, 2025.
Atikah Hanum, a teacher at SMA Baitul Qur’an Yogyakarta, appreciated the event. She expressed the enthusiasm of her students in applying to UGM.
She said, “This session is crucial because we can obtain information we cannot get from the website here. My suggestion is to hold more events like this.“
Hanum, a counseling teacher, is preparing the SNBP registration for her students.
“We happen to have a special team for public university entrance selection. So this session is very helpful,” Hanum added.
Fauzan, a student from SMK Negeri 2 Wonosari, echoed this sentiment. He eagerly attended the event to learn more about UGM’s admission, especially the SNBP and SNBT pathways.
Accompanied by his teacher, a school representative, he said that the event was essential for students and teachers to understand the SNBP and SNBT registration process.
“The information can be synchronized between students and teachers,” he remarked.
Fauzan acknowledged that he had already received sufficient information regarding SNBP and SNBT from his school.
However, he noted that the session made it even easier to access information, especially details not available on official websites.
