On Tuesday (Mar. 18), 181,425 seats were announced for the quota of prospective new students through the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP) pathway.
The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia, Brian Yuliarto, congratulated the new students who had been accepted through this pathway.
“This is certainly a great achievement resulting from all your hard work over the years, guided by your teachers, leading to your acceptance at the universities or higher education institutions of your dreams. Once again, we extend our congratulations,” said Minister Yuliarto, as quoted from the ministry’s website.
He explained that participants who have passed the SNBP pathway are not eligible to participate in the national entrance test (SNBT) or independent entrance exams.
Therefore, he advised students to take advantage of this opportunity.
For those who were not accepted, the minister encouraged them not to be discouraged, as there are still many other pathways they can try.
Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has accepted 2,783 new students through the SNBP pathway this year.
The 10 study programs with the most applicants were Medicine, Law, Psychology, Pharmacy, Accounting, Management, Nursing, Computer Science, Nutrition, and Industrial Engineering.
Meanwhile, the 10 study programs that admitted the most students were Law, with 96 students, followed by Animal Science and Industry, with 90 students; Forestry, with 90 students; Biology, with 72 students, Psychology with 68 students; Veterinary Medicine, with 60 students, Medicine with 53 students, Mechanical Engineering with 51 students, and Dentistry with 47 students.
Secretary of the Directorate of Education and Teaching, Dr. Sigit Priyanta, stated that the SNBP pathway at UGM accommodates 30 percent of the total new student quota.
The remaining applicants can participate in other selection pathways through the SNBT, International Undergraduate Program (IUP), and Independent Admission (UM UGM).
The UM UGM pathway is further divided into the Talent Scouting for Underprivileged Students (PBUTM), Talent Scouting for Outstanding Students (PBUB), UGM Tridharma Affirmation, and UGM Independent Selection based on the Computer-Based Test (UM UGM CBT).
He further explained that the total independent selection quota, comprising 40 percent of the total new student intake, includes 10 percent from PBUB and PBUTM and 10-15 percent from the Affirmation pathway.
“The remainder will be filled through the UM UGM CBT,” he explained on Friday (Mar. 21).
Regarding the selection criteria for SNBP, Dr. Priyanta explained that it is based on academic performance, as shown in the report cards, as well as other recognized achievements.
“For UGM, we recognize achievements at the provincial level as a minimum, organized by competition organizers recognized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas). At UGM, for instance, competitions at UGM or other domestic or international universities that can be justified in terms of quality are also acknowledged,” he explained.
Dr. Priyanta also explained UGM’s evaluation mechanism, which is based on the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulations (Permendikbudristek) Number 48 of 2022 and Number 62 of 2023.
According to his explanation, SNBP takes 50 percent of the average grades from semesters 1 to 5, with the remainder taken from the average grades of two supporting subjects from semesters 1 to 5.
“These two supporting subjects may vary for each study program and are adjusted based on the attachments included in the Ministerial Regulations. For example, for Mechanical Engineering, the two supporting subjects are Mathematics and Physics, which are then supplemented with the candidate’s achievements,” he explained.
He reminded students who have been accepted through SNBP to complete their registration documents, which will take place from Mar. 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. WIB until Mar. 27, 2025.
Afterward, on Apr. 16, 2025, new students can check the verification results of their registration documents and the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) determination on their SIMASTER accounts from Apr. 16 to Apr. 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. WIB.
If prospective students do not register and pay the UKT within the given time frame, they will be considered to have withdrawn or forfeited their rights as prospective students.
For prospective students who were not accepted, Dr. Priyanta offered encouragement, stating that SNBP is not the only pathway to achieve their dreams. If prepared well, many other pathways are still available.
“Not being accepted in SNBP is not the end of the process for securing a place at the best institution to continue your studies,” he encouraged.
Additionally, he provided tips for selecting a study program.
The first is to consider one’s passion for the subject of interest, which, when studied, brings excitement and enthusiasm rather than fatigue. Having a well-thought-out plan for the future career or field to pursue is also important.
“At UGM, we publish the selectivity of study programs, which can serve as a reference to complement your choice. Prospective students can assess which program suits them best,” he concluded.
