Inarno Djajadi, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and OJK’s Head of the Capital Market, Financial, Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange Supervision, shared tips for succeeding in both studies and career in front of hundreds of FEB UGM’s new students on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at FEB UGM Plaza.
During the PIONIR SIMFONI 2024 Inspiring Person session, Djajadi provided several tips for students to navigate their studies at FEB UGM successfully.
He emphasized the importance of managing one’s social environment, starting with choosing the right place to live to support study activities.
“Don’t waste your opportunity because this is the beginning of your success. Be smart in managing your social environment,” advised the FEB UGM alumnus from the class of 1981.
Djajadi recounted his own experience of studying at FEB UGM, where he chose to live in a boarding house within the campus area, specifically in the Bulaksumur lecturer complex.
He made this choice because living on campus provided a calm atmosphere that supported his concentration on studying.
“Choosing a boarding house that supports study concentration is important,” he said.
Besides choosing a place to live, Djajadi highlighted the significance of selecting friends.
He advised students to choose friends with a positive aura but to avoid exclusivity and blend with everyone.
“Choose friends with a positive aura, but don’t be exclusive and should mingle with everyone,” he stressed.
Equally important, he added, is for students to build good relationships and communication with their lecturers.
Establishing good rapport with lecturers can have positive effects during studies, after graduation, and in the professional world.
“Do not see lecturers as mere supervisors but as friends. While studying, do not focus only on learning but also socialize with other students and lecturers,” he elaborated.
Djajadi also provided tips for success in college, including getting to know the campus and its facilities, managing time efficiently, and maintaining a positive mindset in facing various challenges.
“The first year is very important and critical. It will initially feel heavy for those away from their parents because they need to adapt to a new environment. But be confident that the following years will be easier if you pass the first year,” he said.
He reminded the new FEB UGM students to always uphold integrity, honesty, and good governance when entering the workforce.
This aligns with FEB UGM’s ethical values, which include upholding integrity.
“Never take shortcuts, no matter the temptation; integrity must be maintained. I am where I am today because I uphold integrity,” Djajadi concluded.
Inarno Djajadi was born in Yogyakarta on December 31, 1962. He earned his Bachelor of Economics degree from Universitas Gadjah Mada in 1981.
