Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) have signed a memorandum of understanding covering education, research, and community service.
The event also featured a cooperation agreement between the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM) and the State Cyber and Crypto Polytechnic to serve as co-hosts of the 2025 International Conference on Cryptography, Informatics, and Cybersecurity (ICoCICs). The signing took place on Monday (Aug. 11) at the UGM Central Office’s Executive Meeting Room.
BSSN Secretary General Y.B. Susilo Wibowo noted that higher education institutions are centers of learning, drivers of innovation, and hubs of research that benefit a wide range of stakeholders.
However, he acknowledged that complex challenges remain, including cybersecurity threats, gaps in digital literacy, and the need for independent, globally competitive technology. He emphasized that universities are strategic partners in addressing these issues.
“In facing these challenges, we understand that the key to preventing and responding to cyber incidents lies in human resources, robust cybersecurity, and mastery of reliable and independent technology, most of which stem from educational institutions,” Wibowo said.
Echoing this sentiment, UGM Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, underscored the urgent need for comprehensive efforts in cybersecurity and cyber defense.
He noted that UGM’s technological development, training, and educational programs align closely with these objectives, making the collaboration a mutually beneficial synergy.
“This country must be strengthened. Without capable human resources, it will be very difficult to address issues such as data theft, and now we also face challenges like deepfake videos. How do we detect them?” Dr. Hadmoko explained.
According to him, strategic cooperation between BSSN and UGM, aligned with the three pillars of higher education, is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s cyber resilience and produce a generation that is both resilient and professional in navigating the digital era.
