Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a courtesy visit from the leadership of Gaziantep University, Turkey, on Friday (Jul. 18) at the UGM Rector’s Reception Room.
The visit marked an important step toward strengthening strategic cooperation in education, research, and international academic mobility between the two higher education institutions from Asia and Europe.
Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Partnerships at UGM, emphasized that this visit is expected to serve as a foundation for long-term and meaningful collaboration.
“We hope this marks not just a beginning but also a solid foundation for future collaborations, not only between professors but also for students. This includes opportunities for joint innovation programs, guest lectures, and collaborative research initiatives. The Faculty of Engineering also has great potential to organize joint summer programs or student exchange activities,” he said.
Prof. Fahrettin Göğüş, Vice-Rector of Gaziantep University, shared a similar enthusiasm. He highlighted the importance of establishing mutually beneficial networks among researchers from both institutions.
“We see great potential in bringing researchers together and creating future collaborative opportunities, including cross-level student exchange programs and academic dialogue,” he explained.
Professor Poppy Sulistyaning Winanti, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of UGM’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM), welcomed the partnership with optimism.
“This meeting opens up many avenues for collaboration that our lecturers can explore, whether through academic activities, joint research, or faculty exchanges. This warm engagement has the potential to produce collaborative activities that also strengthen the reputation of both institutions globally,” she stated.
This meeting concluded a series of visits by the Gaziantep University delegation to UGM, which began on Wednesday (Jul. 16), including visits to Fisipol UGM, the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP UGM), and the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM).
The collaboration between the two institutions has been established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility program, which has enabled staff and faculty exchanges since June 2025.
By reinforcing university-to-university ties through this visit, UGM continues to demonstrate its commitment to building impactful global networks and fostering cross-border academic innovation.
