Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Kideco Jaya Agung have collaborated on education, research, and community service.
This partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed by the Rector of UGM and the President Director of PT Kideco Jaya Agung on Friday (Mar. 1) at the UGM Central Building.
During the meeting, both entities explored a spectrum of joint programs and activities, including collaborative research ventures, student and young lecturer internships, and the execution of Community Service Programs (KKN).
“We wholeheartedly embrace this collaboration. We appreciate the trust and opportunity, and we eagerly anticipate further avenues of cooperation,” expressed the rector, Professor Ova Emilia.
Rector Emilia underscored the pivotal role of collaboration and synergy between academia and industry in the contemporary landscape. Such partnerships benefit the involved parties and serve the broader community’s interests.
“Knowledge flourishes when these two realms comprehend each other’s needs,” she remarked.
According to Kideco’s official website, the company specializes in resource development, operating the Pasir coal mine, Indonesia’s third-largest single coal mine, which currently yields over 30 million tons annually.
The President Director of PT Kideco Jaya Agung, Kurnia Ariawan, unveiled the company’s current focus on initiatives prioritizing sustainable development, investments, or business activities encapsulated under environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
He stressed the necessity of academic support to foster more sophisticated initiatives and tackle crucial issues, such as mining sludge utilization and enhancing the efficacy of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavors.
“We require abundant expertise input. Pondering alone is arduous amidst our daily operational endeavors,” he elaborated.
The collaboration between UGM and Kideco aims to cultivate exemplary practices that similar enterprises can emulate.
“We can explore additional ventures. Hopefully, they will yield mutual benefits and serve as benchmarks for other mining firms,” added Kurnia Ariawan.
