Higher education institutions play a crucial role in a region’s development. Recognizing this, the Sleman Regency Government explored opportunities for cooperation with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to further develop the Sleman region.
This topic was the main topic of discussion during a meeting between the two parties on Friday (March 14) at the Sleman Regent’s Office Reception Room, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region.
Present at the meeting were UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sujito, University Secretary Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu, and Director of Community Service Dr. Rustamadji.
The Regent of Sleman, Harda Kiswaya, personally welcomed the delegation from UGM.
The meeting, which lasted approximately one and a half hours, identified several cooperation opportunities within the three pillars of higher education that will be implemented between the Sleman Regency Government and UGM.
One example of the ongoing collaboration between Sleman and UGM is the implementation of UGM’s Community Service Program (KKN-PPM UGM).
“The implementation of KKN-PPM in the Sleman area reflects UGM’s commitment to ensuring the regions around the campus continue to progress and develop as expected,” explained the UGM Rector.
During several deployments of KKN-PPM UGM students, they have worked to address issues such as poverty and reducing stunting rates by implementing flagship programs in each unit.
“Several KKN units in Sleman have also developed waste management programs, MSME sector development, stunting reduction, and promoted clean and healthy living,” said Dr. Rustamadji.
The Sleman Regent, Harda Kiswaya, hopes that the cooperation between the Sleman Regency Government and UGM will continue.
This partnership seeks to build on existing collaborations and expand and resolve various sectoral issues, particularly in education and teaching, research, and community service.
“Thus far, UGM and the Sleman Regency Government have collaborated across various fields. We are grateful for the cooperation that has been carried out, and we hope this can continue while preparing for cooperation in other areas,” expressed the Regent of Sleman.
