Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Fast Retailing Indonesia/UNIQLO have agreed to collaborate in the fields of education and career development, along with other mutually agreed-upon areas.
The memorandum of cooperation was signed by UGM Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, and Noriaki Koyama, Director of PT Fast Retailing Indonesia. The signing took place in the UGM Executive Meeting Room on Monday (Jul. 21).
In this agreement, UNIQLO Indonesia and UGM have committed to implementing a Talent Development Program. This initiative is designed to prepare high-potential students for careers in the global retail industry. This is achieved through strategic exposure to UNIQLO’s leadership, business practices, and operational excellence.
Noriaki Koyama expressed appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with UGM. He expressed his pleasure in working closely with UGM, one of Indonesia’s leading universities and a hub for world-class talent.
“I am pleased that we at Fast Retailing have this opportunity to work closely together in developing future global business leaders from Indonesia through this MoU,” Koyama said.
With this collaboration, Koyama stated, PT Fast Retailing Indonesia and UGM will commit to building strategic cooperation in education, human resource development, and enhancing graduate competitiveness.
This Memorandum of Understanding, he said, will be immediately followed up through coordination with the Directorate of Student Affairs and the Directorate of Education and Teaching of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Some key programs to be implemented in this partnership include the Global Management Program (GMP), an intensive five-day course held at the Ariake Office in Tokyo.
The program offers an exclusive opportunity for students to interact directly with global business leaders, gain insights into the fashion retail industry, and learn Fast Retailing’s values and business strategies.
Additionally, there will be a Campus Hiring – UNIQLO Goes to Campus UGM recruitment program, designed to attract future UNIQLO leaders directly from the university environment.
“Fast Retailing has been in Indonesia for more than a decade, with 77 stores in 19 countries. We also have a long history with UGM; many UGM alumni have joined us through the GMP program,” Koyama explained.
He added, “And they have grown to take key leadership positions contributing to the success of the organization and Indonesian society. We remain committed to being part of Indonesia’s development through products, sales, and welfare efforts.”
Dr. Hadmoko also expressed appreciation to PT Fast Retailing Indonesia for this cooperation opportunity.
He mentioned that PT Fast Retailing Indonesia is the company behind the global apparel brand UNIQLO, which is committed to innovation and actively supports education as part of its positive contribution to society.
He stated that Indonesia has a demographic bonus, with most of its population being young people. At UGM alone, he said, there are more than 60,000 students, some of whom hope to gain opportunities from this collaboration.
“So, I think we have many opportunities to collaborate, especially in talent development, primarily with industries like UNIQLO. Through this collaboration, we also want to invite you to invest in human resources at UGM,” Dr. Hadmoko conveyed.
