UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, officially released the university’s athletes to participate in the 19th National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) on Monday, Sep. 15, 2025, at Multimedia Room 1, UGM Central Office. The athletes representing UGM will compete from Sep. 19 to 27, 2025, in Central Java Province.
The ceremonial send-off was marked by Vice-Rector Sujito presenting the UGM Contingent jacket to one of the athletes, Fidelia Dwipuspita Purwacahya from the Vocational College (SV UGM), who will compete in the karate event.
This was followed by the rest of the athletes donning their jackets simultaneously.
In his remarks, Vice-Rector Sujito conveyed his congratulations and pride in the athletes who will carry UGM’s name at the national sports competition.
“I am always proud to see students who excel not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities. History has shown that many leaders in various fields were also shaped outside the classroom,” he said.
Vice-Rector Sujito reminded the athletes to maintain both their physical and mental well-being during the championship.
According to him, endurance, resilience, and team support are crucial strengths for every athlete.
“If you win, you will inspire others. But even if luck is not on your side, do not be discouraged. Being in the competition is already an achievement,” Dr. Sujito encouraged.
He also hopes that UGM’s team will achieve the best results in this year’s tournament.
“Success also depends greatly on your determination, commitment, and hard work. Once again, I wish you all the best. Believe that your courage to compete is your strength to succeed in the future,” he added.
Director of Student Affairs at UGM, Dr. Hempri Suyatna, stated that UGM will send a total of 16 athletes to the POMNAS this year.
They consist of 4 chess players, 5 archers, 1 pencak silat athlete, 2 swimmers, 3 karate athletes, and 1 taekwondo athlete.
He noted that this year’s delegation has increased compared to the previous edition, where UGM only sent 13 athletes.
“In the last POMNAS, we sent 13 athletes. Alhamdulillah, this year we can send 16 athletes,” he explained.
