Rima Arvisya Nathania Putri, a 2022 student from the UGM Faculty of Biology (Biology UGM), has successfully advanced to the Yogyakarta Language Ambassador 2024 Competition finals.
This selection process involved 70 applicants who had passed the administrative document screening and submitted a Nationality Activity Proposal.
Rima is among the 20 finalists, which include ten male and ten female candidates. The finalists were selected through interviews that covered their backgrounds, English language proficiency, and talents.
The finalists will undergo training and final assessments. They will then automatically join the Yogyakarta Language Ambassador Association and serve for the following year.
Rima expressed her happiness at becoming a language ambassador finalist, a dream she had had since high school.
“Becoming a Language Ambassador has been one of my dreams and targets since high school,” said Rima on Tuesday (Jun 11).
Rima’s long-standing participation in similar competitions since elementary school and her connection with language, literature, and culture motivated her to enter this competition.
“The Language Ambassador program allows me to convey my understanding and serve the community as a pioneer in promoting Trigatra Bangun Bahasa,” she said.
Rima also received support from the Faculty of Biology, which facilitated the necessary permissions for participating in the Language Ambassador activities.
She mentioned that her faculty helped share her photo on the Yogyakarta Language Ambassador account to garner likes, one of the criteria for the Favorite Ambassador award.
Aiming to be the top Language Ambassador for Yogyakarta 2024, Rima hopes to represent the region in the National Language Ambassador Selection 2024.
The Language Ambassador program nurtures young people who are partners in language and literature, showing concern for developing and preserving the Indonesian language and local dialects and possessing foreign language skills to promote Indonesian on an international level.
This year’s Yogyakarta Language Ambassador theme is “Sangkan Paraning Dumadi: Realization of Language Ambassadors as Self-Aware and Impactful Generation through Language, Literature, and Culture.”
Rima’s success in becoming a Language Ambassador finalist demonstrates her dedication to academics and cultural preservation through active participation in various activities. She plans to use and share her knowledge and skills with others through multiple communities and forums.
“I don’t want this knowledge and experience to stop with me. I want to impact society, especially in terms of language service, preservation, and commerce,” she concluded.
