Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) attended the 2nd Meeting of the Republic of Indonesia-Singapore University Network (RISING UN) organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology in Bali on June 13-14, 2023.
This event is a continuation of the first meeting held in November 2022. This activity aims to strengthen cooperation and build connections between universities in Indonesia and Singapore.
The forum was attended by five Indonesian universities: UGM, IPB University, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Universitas Indonesia (UI), and 6 Singaporean universities: Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).
UGM Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Ignatius Susatyo Wijoyo, said that as a follow-up to the 1st meeting held online, each university is expected to focus on detailed discussions regarding the implementation of cooperation programs.
“Each participating university has the opportunity to present ongoing or initiated cooperation and discuss the potential for collaboration that leads to implementation,” said Susatyo.
In this forum, the directorate general provided a platform for interactive discussions during the networking session by providing booths for Indonesian universities. Delegations from Singaporean universities then visited the booths to interact and explore potential cooperation through a matchmaking process.
UGM has cooperated well with five Singaporean universities: NTU, NUS, SMU, SUSS, and SUTD. Various collaborative activities, such as +1 joint degrees, joint research, INSPIRASI, and staff and student exchanges, have been evidence of UGM’s commitment to fostering strong cooperation with Singaporean universities.
Acting Head of the Sub-Directorate of Domestic Cooperation, Dr. Alfatika Aunuriella Dini, added that after the matchmaking process, the following steps include developing Double Degree programs, scholarships for students, expanding the scope of cooperation from INSPIRASI to sports medicine and sports science research, and efforts to establish a new partnership with SIT.
“UGM is optimistic that with the strong support from the governments of Indonesia and Singapore, there will be more opportunities for implementing cooperation in various fields of study,” she concluded.
