UGM Campus Mosque received more than 50 sacrificial animals this year, donated by individuals and institutional partners. The total consisted of 11 cows, 19 goats, and 36 sheep.
“We also received one cow from the rector’s family,” said the Head of the UGM Campus Mosque Takmir Board, Dr. Muhammad Yusuf, on Tuesday (Jun. 10).
Dr. Yusuf stated that the mosque also received sacrificial animals from UGM’s external partners, including Huawei and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). This year, BSI contributed one cow, while Huawei donated three goats.
As a long-standing partner of UGM, BSI has regularly donated sacrificial animals under the name of Bank Syariah Mandiri since 2017.
According to Dr. Yusuf, the donation of sacrificial animals has become an annual tradition at UGM, aimed at supporting communities eligible to receive qurban.
The slaughtering of the sacrificial animals at the UGM Campus Mosque took place over two days, Friday and Saturday (Jun. 6–7). The meat was then distributed to underprivileged groups, including Islamic boarding schools, orphanages, the poor, and mosques across Yogyakarta.
“The meat will also be distributed to communities surrounding UGM,” he added.
Not all animals donated to the UGM Campus Mosque were slaughtered on campus. Some were slaughtered at various locations in Gunungkidul and Kulon Progo.
“Some of the animals were slaughtered in Tepus and Gedangsari in Gunungkidul, as well as in Samigaluh and Kalibawang in Kulon Progo,” he explained.
