The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conferred degrees upon 1,753 graduates from master’s, medical specialty, medical subspecialty, and doctoral programs during the first period of the postgraduate graduation ceremony held on October 25 and 26, 2023.
Among the graduates were the daughters of the State Secretary Minister, Pratikno; the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono; and the son of the Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency, Hasto Wardoyo.
“Congratulations! I give the highest appreciation to the graduates for their hard work in completing their education programs. Recognition is also extended to the families and all those who have supported the education of these graduates until their attainment of this level,” said the Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, MD.
The graduates in this period comprised 1,503 master’s graduates, including 15 foreign nationals; 113 medical specialty graduates; 18 medical subspecialty graduates; 119 doctoral graduates, including one foreign national; and 12 graduates from the previous period who participated in this ceremony.
On the first day, October 25, 2023, UGM graduated 999 students from 12 faculties, while on the second day, October 26, 2023, UGM graduated 747 students from 6 faculties and the Graduate School.
Speaking to the graduates, the rector addressed challenges faced by Indonesia and the world, one related to environmental issues and climate change threatening global sustainability.
She emphasized that the complexity of these global issues requires attention from various parties to respond and provide solutions with innovative knowledge, insights, and skills.
The university’s tri-dharma activities are part of the effort to mitigate all risks, challenges, and environmental changes while adhering to norms, integrity, humanitarian ethics, and sustainable living. Rector Emilia hopes that UGM’s graduates can be part of this endeavor.
“The competencies and personal characters possessed by today’s UGM graduates will serve as adequate provisions to refine intelligence and wisdom in their actions and thoughts and contribute to solving future challenges in the nation’s life,” said the rector.
“Therefore, use the knowledge you possess as the foundation for wisdom in action and thought and for the well-being of humanity and the sustainability of life on Earth.”
The average study period for master’s graduates is two years and four months, with the quickest study time achieved by Rien Larasati Arini from the Faculty of Pharmacy, completing her studies in 1 year, 0 months, and 16 days.
For medical specialty graduates, the average study period is three years and 11 months, with the fastest study time achieved by Leo Trido Saputro from the Faculty of Dentistry, who completed his studies in 2 years, nine months, and 12 days.
Nabila Kirtti Pradipta and Shinta Trilaksmi Dewi, both from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, achieved the highest GPA of 4.00, with the distinction of honors.
The average study period for medical subspecialty graduates is two years and seven months, with the fastest study time achieved by Alexandra Widita Swipratami Pangarso from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, who completed her studies in 1 year, 11 months, and 15 days, while also obtaining the highest GPA of 3.99 with honors.
The average study period for doctoral graduates is five years and one month, with Yudie Aprianto from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences completing his studies in two years, nine months, and five days, the fastest among his peers.
In this graduation period, 16 master’s graduates achieved the highest GPA of 4.00. Additionally, two medical subspecialty graduates and eight doctoral graduates obtained a GPA of 4.00 with honors.
“The educational achievement in the postgraduate degrees is the initial step for all of you to continue developing scientific knowledge, learning throughout life, and implementing it to adapt to various changes and benefit society. I hope you become adaptive, innovative, collaborative, competitive, and people of character wherever you are,” concluded the rector.
