UGM is gearing up for its annual Character Festival, a vibrant celebration of young talent shaping a glorious Indonesia.
Taking place under the theme “The Charm of Youth Characters, Creating a Glorious Indonesia,” the festival promises an exciting line-up of events that will inspire and empower young minds.
With its focus on fostering creativity, leadership, and entrepreneurship, the festival aims to equip students with the tools they need to contribute meaningfully to themselves and their communities.
“So, students are encouraged to increase their creativity, innovation, and adaptability in facing problems of leadership, entrepreneurship, and nationalism to help them grow and benefit the wider community,” said the Head of the UGM Sub-Directorate of Character Development, Utiyati.
The 2023 UGM Character Festival kicks off with a series of highly anticipated competitions, such as quizzes, elevator pitches, national orations, and debate and argumentation. Registration for all competitions began on November 10, 2023, and closed on November 23, 2023.
Since its first edition in 2018, the UGM Character Festival has produced creative individuals with strong leadership and entrepreneurial spirits. The values emphasized in this event include courage in taking risks, the ability to create opportunities, and creativity with Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
“Students from other universities can join the competitions, such as the national oration, to train in public speaking and self-confidence,” added Utiyati.
Interestingly, the UGM Quiz competition is revived in collaboration with the 2023 PPSMB Pionir community.
According to Utiyati, this competition is part of the continuity of applying UGM values introduced during the PPSMB (student orientation). Not only that, the UGM Character Festival will also be colored by other exciting events, such as talk shows and expos.
This talk show covers leadership and entrepreneurship and is open to all students. Meanwhile, the expo will involve entrepreneurial ventures from the Student Entrepreneur Program (PMW), leader projects, and students’ action plans.
“The expo will feature entrepreneurial programs, such as student entrepreneurs and Merdeka Entrepreneurship (WMK). UGM is also one of the organizers of the WMK in 2023, with around 60-plus universities joining,” said Dr. Hempri Suyatna, Secretary of the Directorate of Student Affairs.
“There are also entrepreneurial programs initiated by organizations and communities at UGM and with BCA. So, the UGM Character Festival will showcase 130 tenants.”
The UGM Character Festival activities also emphasize sustainability in their programs. Participants, organizers, and students are encouraged to become agents of change, using their skills and talents to benefit society.
