The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) signed a Letter of Intent for Collaboration between UGM and PT Global Investment Institusi, a subsidiary of LX International (formerly LG International Corp), a South Korean company.
Both parties have agreed to collaborate in education, research, and community service, particularly in developing online learning platforms.
“I thank you for the trust given; I believe this is an opportunity because UGM increasingly needs blended learning and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs),” said Professor Ova Emilia, MD, the Rector of UGM.
The rector mentioned that the MOOCs developed by UGM will benefit not only students from relevant study programs but also other students and even the general public.
“When we create MOOCs and online programs, it turns out that the audience outside of UGM is very enthusiastic. This is both an opportunity and a challenge. Hopefully, after this collaboration, it will further enhance the existing opportunities for MOOC development in the future,” she stated.
PT GII is a company engaged in education, particularly preparing digital talents. The collaboration between UGM and PT GII was initiated several months ago, with intensive communication between both parties to design the best implementation.
“May the collaboration between UGM and PT GII continue and benefit society and the country,” Professor Emilia added.
During this occasion, the President Director of PT GII, Choi Min, expressed appreciation and the company’s commitment to establishing good collaboration with UGM.
“For the past three years, we have wanted to start digital education with institutions and various companies in Jakarta and throughout Indonesia. It is an extraordinary honor, and with what we have, we hope to contribute especially to UGM students,” Choi Min stated.
UGM’s efforts to develop online learning platforms and MOOCs align with the university’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The platform developed relates explicitly to SDG 4, “Quality Education,” which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
