Alumni of the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Department of Electrical Engineering, Class of 2000, recently held a silver reunion to commemorate 25 years since they first entered the “Kampus Biru.” Around 43 alumni from across Indonesia gathered to reconnect, share stories, reminisce about their college years, and plan concrete contributions to their alma mater.
The reunion, which ran from 11 a.m. until evening, began with a friendly gathering and lunch, followed by a tour of several laboratories and campus facilities.
Group photos at iconic spots, such as Classroom E6, the front yard of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Engineering (DETI) building, the Smart Green Learning Center (SGLC), Tugu Teknik, Balairung, and Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP), were special moments captured for inclusion in the updated yearbook.
During the formal session held in room E6, alumni were warmly welcomed by Professor Selo, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM), and Professor Hanung Adi Nugroho, Head of DTETI. Both delivered updates on the latest developments within the FT UGM and DTETI.
The reunion concluded with a lively gala dinner at Sekar Kedhaton, where the warm atmosphere rekindled the bonds of friendship among alumni and inspired a spirit of collaboration.
More than just an occasion for nostalgia, the event also produced concrete plans for alumni contributions, including input on curriculum development at DTETI based on their professional experiences.
“I am thrilled to return to campus and witness the remarkable progress here. But most memorable of all was reuniting with old friends,” said Unan Yusmaniar Oktiawati, one of the attending alumni, as she shared her impressions.
According to Oktiawati, the rapidly advancing digital era presents major challenges that alumni must face together. Even so, alumni are eager to contribute to DTETI’s progress.
“One of our small contributions is to provide additional insights from the alumni perspective, which we have already conveyed to the department,” she added.
Reflecting on the silver reunion, Oktiawati emphasized that alumni ties are not only about nostalgia but also about building collaboration and contributing to education and the future of technology.
“We want the synergy between alumni and the university to remain strong, for the sake of a better future for the next generation,” she concluded.
