UGM, as a renowned higher education institution, is dedicated to becoming a hub of excellence in science and technology development while contributing to societal welfare. A key strategy to achieve this lofty goal is to advocate for enhancing faculty quality.
“UGM requires skilled human resources to propel the attainment of these objectives. Faculty members are pivotal in upholding the university’s tri-dharma,” affirmed Rector Ova Emilia during the inauguration of a Workshop for Young UGM Faculty Members on Monday (Feb. 26).
Rector Emilia underscored that being a faculty member transcends merely imparting knowledge to students. Faculty members also bear the responsibility of advancing the university’s tri-dharma.
This multifaceted role elevates the stature of faculty members as key players in elevating the quality of higher education, including the sustenance of knowledge evolution.
“We recognize that UGM’s triumph is intricately linked to the synergy and backing provided by faculty members in accomplishing the university’s performance targets,” she remarked.
Hence, UGM has implemented systematic initiatives to prepare faculty members through various schemes.
These include structured career advancement opportunities both administratively and academically, interdisciplinary collaboration schemes, and an array of strategic initiatives to prepare future UGM leaders.
“These initiatives are envisioned to furnish insights into career development trajectories, integration of knowledge domains, fortifying collaboration commitments, and opening avenues for expanded research funding,” she elaborated.
The Head of the UGM Bureau of Strategic Management, Dr. Wirastuti Widyatmanti, elucidated that this workshop convened 125 young faculty members who completed overseas doctoral programs within the UGM community and returned to Indonesia in the last three years.
The workshop is designed to bolster the career trajectory of UGM faculty members. Additionally, it seeks to enhance and amplify research productivity aligned with UGM’s core areas of expertise.
It also aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly discourse, identify research funding sources accessible to faculty members, foster a sense of unity and ownership within the UGM community, and offer mentorship.
