In collaboration with Taiwan Center and I-Shou University, the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) has organized a workshop titled “Design Thinking for Digital Courses.”
The event took place over two days, from August 10th to 11th, 2023. Sixty-four teachers and school principals from 34 senior high schools in Yogyakarta attended the workshop on the first day. The second day was joined by 40 lecturers and students from study programs within FMIPA.
Dean of FMIPA, Professor Kuwat Triyana, mentioned that this activity aimed to engage high school students and teachers, lecturers, and UGM students in becoming digitally literate, considering they are growing up in a digital era characterized by technological advancements.
According to him, the speed, connectivity, and ease of accessing information have become integral to their daily lives.
“With such characteristics, traditional approaches to education often no longer suffice to capture their attention and maximize their learning potential,” said the dean on Friday (8/11).
As Professor Triyana mentioned, design thinking is a human-centered approach that offers innovative solutions for designing digital learning experiences for young individuals.
The design thinking approach is about creating appealing content and constructing deep, meaningful, and relevant learning experiences for the younger generation.
“Considering the distinct characteristics and needs of this generation, innovative approaches like design thinking become crucial to ensuring the success of learning in the current digital era,” he added.
Professor Triyana opened the workshop, followed by speeches by Professor Huang Wen Shen representing I-Shou University, Taiwan, and Arif Misbahul representing Taiwan Center.
The workshop was divided into two parts, led by Professor Shin Jyh Wei from the Department of Parasitology at the College of Medicine and the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology at National Cheng Kung University.
It also featured presentations by Professor Wang Yu-Chi from the I-Shou University Department of Medical Science and Biotechnology.
