The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory of the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) conducted a community service activity to enhance the scientific writing competence of chemistry teachers in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara.
The activity involved approximately 30 chemistry teachers from August 17 to 19, 2023. It was carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at the University of Mataram.
In addition to enhancing the competence of chemistry teachers, the event also aimed to improve the future mapping skills of 25 high school students in grades 11 and 12 from Mataram City.
Dr. Suherman, the program coordinator for UGM’s community service, explained that the activity consisted of parallel workshops.
The workshop for chemistry teachers, organized in cooperation with the Chemistry Teacher Association of Mataram, focused on environmental issues in chemistry education with Professor Endang Tri Wahyuni as the speaker.
Another workshop on scientific writing for teacher publications featured Professor Mudasir as the speaker.
For the student sessions, Dr. Suherman presented materials related to future skills. Additionally, Dr. Yunita Arian Sani Anwar, a lecturer at the University of Mataram, presented the prospects for science education graduates.
Dr. Suherman mentioned that this activity received positive responses from teachers and students. They expressed hope for the continuous implementation of such activities and further assistance in scientific writing for teachers.
Furthermore, the students felt they gained additional insights into future planning and the prospective careers for Mathematics and Natural Sciences graduates.
