The UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) inaugurated 92 new medical doctors, 28 male and 64 female, on Thursday (May. 2) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
To date, FK-KMK UGM has graduated 10,793 doctors. Of the 28 new doctors inaugurated this time, 14 graduated with the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA), with Jessica Ev achieving the highest CGPA of 3.9.
The inauguration ceremony was led by the Dean of FK-KMK UGM, Professor Yodi Mahendradhata, and the Head of the Medicine program, Dr. Denny Agustiningsih, and attended by the Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia.
Rector Ova Emilia stated that the medical profession is a dedication, not just a title. Every UGM medical graduate must uphold the community’s right to access healthcare wherever and whenever. The quality of healthcare is one of the indicators of national development.
The community needs optimal healthcare services with adequate equipment and personnel. Achieving this requires qualified and integrity-driven medical professionals.
“As one institution that educates future doctors, UGM is responsible for maintaining national medical quality. It is certainly a good start for graduates to dedicate themselves to future health development,” said the rector.
As a graduate of FK-KMK UGM, Rector Emilia shared her experience in achieving the doctorate title and currently serving as the rector. For her, parental support is the most important aspect of the continuity of the learning process.
Although she initially didn’t want to become a doctor but rather an engineer, her perception changed when she was accepted as a medical student at UGM. She believes that love for the medical field grows over time.
Therefore, Rector Emilia hopes that UGM’s medical graduates will be able to provide the best healthcare services with sincerity and great responsibility to the community.
“Every doctor has a humanitarian responsibility. Wherever you are assigned, you must uphold morals and ethics. You must also uphold the good name and love for your alma mater, UGM,” she concluded.
